4 Steps to Building a Simple Shelter in Dense Forest Terrain

Step 1: You will need to find a sturdy log or a long branch (a good rule of thumb is picking something that you can drag or pick up).

Step 2: You will next need to find a place where one end of your log or branch can be propped up against solid, such as another tree or perhaps a stump.

Step 3: Find smaller branches or sticks that are as long as the gap between the ground and your log, and cover the sides with these sticks with about 1-2 inches between each stick. Depending on the log’s length, you will need more or less sticks, and of varying length.

Step 4: Last, pick up fallen leaves and fill in the 1-2 inch gaps between the sticks. Once the gaps are filled with leaves, your shelter is finished!
